History of the
Amazing Grace Community Church
Amazing Grace Community Church in Cuba Missouri was started in March of 2007. A group of local people that were, at that time, mostly members of a local mainline church denomination, concerned over the liberal direction theologically and morally of that denomination, met to discuss the possibility of planting a new bible based, Christ honoring community church. There was also the recognition of a large percentage of people in the community that are unchurched. A former pastor to many in the group was asked to take the lead in exploring the possibility of a new church. At the pastor’s request a group of 6 additional men were elected from the group to help in the leadership of this new movement. A place to worship was located and many in the group began to worship together in this new location in April of 2007.
In the same month of April of 2007 the decision was made by this leadership group to form a community church to be known by the title Amazing Grace Community Church. Gary Mace was called and contracted by the leadership team and congregation to serve as their pastor.
On the pastor’s request and recommendation the leadership of this church sought the help and affiliation of the Central District of the Evangelical Free Church of America. After consultation with EFCA it was found that the faith statement and mission of the EFCA would fit very well with the faith and mission of AGCC. The decision was made to go forward with the EFCA in the planting process and apply for official church status when eligible.
From April 2007 through October 2008 thorough God’s Grace and blessings Amazing Grace Community Church has put together a constitution, an official membership and leadership board and several ministry programs. Every worship service has been well attended and there are several testimonies of changed lives for the glory of Christ.
The congregation is seeing growth spiritually and in number and a building program has been started. The congregation is looking forward to a new facility and, with it, additional opportunity for reaching people with God’s mercy and grace through Christ.
